Philanthropy at Clatterbridge

Every year donations to our charity allow us to invest millions of pounds into care and research at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Each of these projects starts with an idea from our clinical colleagues for how care could be improved in their area.

Clatterbridge Cancer Charity are the bridge between donors and our clinical colleagues. We work with our supporters to ensure each gift creates the donor’s desired impact for patients.

“A patient approached me who wanted to make a difference and I was pleased to introduce her to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. The charity worked with the patient to listen and understand her reasons for donating and what she wanted to achieve.

Thanks to this donor we will run our first ever workshop that will help these patients (and their carers) to connect with each other and support them to manage their own wellbeing and quality of life at such a testing time.“

Professor Tim Maughan, Director of Clinical Research

“The charity’s commitment of funding £5m over five years to advance research is a vital boost for research and clinical trials at Clatterbridge, allowing us to build on our established national reputation for cancer research and take this to a whole new level.

With your support, we can offer our patients new approaches to therapy, developed and delivered right here in Cheshire and Merseyside. This means more opportunities, more time and more hope for our patients.”

A major gift will help our clinical teams to access the very latest technology to ensure the best patient outcomes. For example, thanks to your support, we have been able to fund the purchase a second Surface Guided Radiotherapy system which utilises 3D real time imaging of the patient. This equipment will allow us to treat some patients without them needing a permanent tattoo to guide their therapy, such tattoos we know can cause distress by acting as a permanent reminder of their experience.

Developments like this simply wouldn’t be possible through NHS funding alone.

Your donation also helps us to make our centres as welcoming and comfortable as possible. We pride ourselves on creating environments in which patients receive the best possible experience, and we know that those special touches can mean so much. As part of this, we fund interactive arts programmes (such as our collaboration with the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic and FACT) which are designed to increase patient wellbeing, reduce patient anxiety and boredom. Having something to chat to their visitors about that is not Cancer is also a huge benefit to patients and their visitors.

We are currently working on exciting plans to redevelop Halton and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Wirral treatment centres.

Together, the investment will ensure that patients having chemotherapy, immunotherapy and other cancer treatments in Halton and Wirral benefit from bright, comfortable, welcoming and modern facilities like those provided in CCC-Liverpool. We would be pleased to provide more information about these projects.

If you are considering making a gift to Clatterbridge then please do contact our specialist philanthropy team in complete confidence for more information about how your generosity could support care and research at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. We can advise about projects and multi-year gifts with no obligation.

We value these partnerships and look forward to working with you to show how you can make a real difference locally.

Emma Rodgers

The Clatterbridge Fairy was specially created by our Charity Patron, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Emma Rodgers.

We asked Emma to share why she's supporting our Fairy Appeal:
"I have been a Patron of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for 14 years now, as my mum is cared for there. They are incredible with her and getting the 'all clear' was a wonderful moment. They've done more for me than I can ever do for them, so creating the Fairy seems a small thing, really.

And this year I will be dedicating my Fairy to Professor Myint and the Team at Clatterbridge love from Emma, Milly, Annie and family."
