Gaming for Clatterbridge: Ste’s 12-Hour Game-a-thon for World Lymphoma Day

At Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, we’re constantly inspired by the incredible ways our supporters choose to fundraise – and this September, one of our amazing fundraisers is combining passion, purpose, and pixels to make a real difference.

Meet Ste Rowlands, who’s taking on a 12-hour game-a-thon on Monday 15th September 2025, in honour of World Lymphoma Day.

Ste’s challenge is more than just a gaming marathon – it’s a heartfelt tribute to his partner Maxine and a powerful way to raise funds for local people affected by cancer.

Ste shared his story with us:

“On New Year’s Eve in 2019, my partner of 27 years, Maxine, was diagnosed with lymphoma. She was treated at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Aintree and went into remission in the summer of 2020. But 18 months later, her cancer returned.”

“After another round of treatment, Maxine was back in remission – until December last year, when her cancer came back for a third time. This time, she was offered CAR T transplant therapy, a more intense treatment with the aim of beating cancer. Maxine has now completed her treatment and is back home.”

Ste’s connection to Clatterbridge goes back even further:

“I first became aware of the amazing work Clatterbridge does when my mum was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. She was treated but sadly passed away. Then I saw the incredible care the staff gave Maxine.”

“I’ll never be able to repay the extraordinary care Maxine received, but by doing my 12-hour gameathon, I hope to raise money for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity so more people like Maxine can get the care they need.”

Ste’s game-a-thon is a brilliant example of how you can turn your hobbies into fundraising power. Whether you’re into gaming, baking, running, or crafting – there’s always a way to support Clatterbridge in your own unique style.

Emma Rodgers

The Clatterbridge Fairy was specially created by our Charity Patron, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Emma Rodgers.

We asked Emma to share why she's supporting our Fairy Appeal:
"I have been a Patron of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for 14 years now, as my mum is cared for there. They are incredible with her and getting the 'all clear' was a wonderful moment. They've done more for me than I can ever do for them, so creating the Fairy seems a small thing, really.

And this year I will be dedicating my Fairy to Professor Myint and the Team at Clatterbridge love from Emma, Milly, Annie and family."
