Our Impact

In 2025/26 our supporters raised £4 million, which has funded cutting-edge research including UK-first clinical trials, new technology to make radiotherapy more comfortable, an arts programme enjoyed by over 2,000 patients, and vital support for our teenage and young adult ward.

We support patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s three main sites in Liverpool, Wirral and Aintree, as well as a network of chemotherapy clinics closer to home. Every pound raised by our community stays local, helping to ensure that people across our region have access to the very best cancer care.

Our £5m Research Boost

Each year, around 7,000 people die from cancer in the region and this number is growing so the Charity has pledged £5m over five years to take the ground-breaking research work at Clatterbridge to the next level. This will give patients at the centre unparalleled access to new, life-saving treatments.

Cooling technology protects nerves

Twelve Hilotherm machines are being rolled out across Clatterbridge clinics in Aintree, Liverpool, Halton, Wirral and St Helens. By cooling hands and feet during chemotherapy, this technology reduces nerve damage from treatment, helping protect more than 400 patients a year from long-term numbness and pain.

Workshops for brain cancer patients

Thanks to donor support, our clinical oncology team is running its first ever workshop for patients with life-limiting brain cancers and their carers. The event will help people connect with others in similar circumstances and find practical support for managing their wellbeing during treatment.

Taking The Stress Out Of Blood Tests

Thanks to donations, the Charity has been able to transform how blood samples are taken from patients with ‘tricky blood vessels’. These vein viewer devices mean people can have their bloods taken much closer to home.

Improving Fitness In People With Cancer

Doctors at Clatterbridge are working with patients to give one-on-one fitness coaching to help reduce fatigue, boost mental health and improve quality of life; a move that they feel could revolutionise cancer treatment.

The Healing Power Of Art

The Charity offers a range of creative activities, artwork and performances, including a partnership with the Liverpool Philharmonic to help reduce stress, provide distractions and help support people during their time at Clatterbridge.

Using AI to improve Cancer Treatment

Thanks to £45,000 of your donations, we are supporting vital work undertaken by Dr. Syndikus to improve prostate cancer treatment using artificial intelligence. This research will help doctors nationwide to target the cancer more precisely, therefore reducing the chances of the cancer spreading.

Providing Vital Counselling Support

Each year 13,000 new patients are referred to Clatterbridge, and just as each cancer is unique, so is each individual’s experience of treatment. You are helping to fund a third counsellor to provide support for patients who may be struggling to cope during treatment.

Researching how Breast Cancer spreads

New research is exploring how breast cancer spreads to the brain and how patients at high risk can be monitored more effectively. This work could make a real difference for the 60,000 people currently living with secondary breast cancer in the UK.
