There is something incredibly powerful about a community coming together for a common cause. Here at Clatterbridge, we see that power in action every day, but our latest inspiration comes from a dedicated group of volunteers in Southport who have officially united to support our charity.
Led by Jenny Peacock, this new team is a mix of former patients and supporters who are determined to turn their personal experiences into something positive for others.
For Jenny, the decision to lead the Southport group was deeply personal. Having been treated for breast cancer at Clatterbridge, she knows exactly how much the kindness and strength of the staff matter during the hardest days of treatment.
“My cancer journey changed my life in ways I never expected,” Jenny says. “Through the fear, treatment, and recovery, I experienced incredible support. Now, I feel a deep desire to give back, to help support others that will battle after me.”
Jenny isn’t alone. Along with Kerynne, Mo, Gaynor, Peter, and Ken, the Southport team is proving that when we share our stories, we can make a real difference for the one in two people in our region affected by cancer.
Being part of a fundraising group isn’t just about hard work—it’s about community and having a bit of fun. The Southport team is jumping straight in with their first event: A 30th Anniversary Quiz Night.
- Sunday, 29th March at 7pm
- The Windmill Pub, Seabank Road, Southport
- Entry is just £1!
The quiz will celebrate 30 years of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity with questions from the last three decades and a special “famous faces” round.
They are also preparing for the Southport Flower Show, where Clatterbridge has been chosen as the charity for the prestigious Ladies Day lunch.
Could you start a group in your area?
The Southport team is a fantastic example of what can happen when a few like-minded people decide to take action. Whether you live in Liverpool, Wirral, St Helens, or beyond, we would love to help you set up a group in your own neighborhood.
As our Community Fundraiser Ellie Gilbert says: “They are an amazing and very friendly group of people. We would love more people to get involved if they can.”
If you’re in the Southport area and want to join Jenny and the gang, or if you can donate a raffle prize for their upcoming events, please get in touch!
