Magical Christmas Concert Raises Funds for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

More than 500 people gathered at Liverpool’s Metropolitan Cathedral for a heart warming carol concert in support of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity. The festive event was hosted by the legendary Pete Price. The evening featured performances by the Wirral Orchestra and Choir, Wirral Pipe Band, mezzo-soprano Kathryn Rudge, and world-renowned artist Emma Rodgers.

The concert raised an impressive £6,822. The funds will go towards enhancing patient care and funding research at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Foundation Trust. The evening was made even more special by the annual Fairy Appeal, where audience members dedicated handwritten messages to loved ones affected by cancer. The messages were displayed on a Christmas tree in the Cathedral.

The event kicked off with a stunning performance of Highland Cathedral by the Wirral Pipe Band. Pete Price then welcomed the audience and introduced Kathryn Rudge and the choir, who delivered a beautiful rendition of In the Bleak Mid-winter. The orchestra followed with the seasonal favourite Parade of the Tin Soldiers and the audience joined in for a singalong of Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.

Silas Jones captivated everyone with a solo pipe performance of O Come, O Come Emmanuel. Kathryn Rudge’s spine-tingling version of O Holy Night left the audience in awe.

Emma Rodgers, a charity patron and artist, read “The Road to Fairyland,” highlighting her contributions to the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity Fairy for the past five years.

The evening concluded with Kathryn Rudge’s mesmerising solo of White Christmas, followed by Pete Price and young audience members conducting the orchestra for the Radetzky March. The night ended on a high note with the audience being piped out to Mull of Kintyre and a surprise visit from Santa and his elves.

Antony Jones, Community Fundraising Manager for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, expressed his gratitude: “It was wonderful to see so many people come together in support of Clatterbridge at this special time of year. The Wirral Pipe Band gave us a rousing taste of the Scottish Highlands to start proceedings, and Kathryn Rudge enchanted concertgoers young and old with her beautiful singing. Conductor Neill Jackson and the Wirral Orchestra and Choir took us on a magical sleigh ride of Christmas favourites, accompanied by Dr Colin Porter on organ. We are also incredibly thankful to Emma Rodgers for her dedication to our charity and her beautiful reading.

“Pete Price ensured everyone had a fantastic evening, making it a night to remember.”

Special thanks were also given to Tesco Community Champions for their generous raffle prizes and support during the event.

You still have time to dedicate a Fairy to someone special this Christmas here.

Emma Rodgers

The Clatterbridge Fairy was specially created by our Charity Patron, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Emma Rodgers.

We asked Emma to share why she's supporting our Fairy Appeal:
"I have been a Patron of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for 14 years now, as my mum is cared for there. They are incredible with her and getting the 'all clear' was a wonderful moment. They've done more for me than I can ever do for them, so creating the Fairy seems a small thing, really.

And this year I will be dedicating my Fairy to Professor Myint and the Team at Clatterbridge love from Emma, Milly, Annie and family."
