Enhancing the patient environment

You are helping to ensure patients are cared for in the best possible environment, creating peaceful indoor and outdoor spaces. It’s thanks to charity support that Clatterbridge Centres have been built to such a high standard, with many patients commenting that it feels more like a hotel than a hospital.

Your donations also fund therapeutic work to encourage emotional wellbeing through the arts; a range of creative activities, performances and artwork for patients, through the Arts in Health programme at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

Creating peaceful outdoor spaces

We are using £115,000 of your donations to create restful and welcoming spaces across The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre’s.

Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool is a city centre location and had little outdoor space, which is an important element in improving health and wellbeing. The terraces –  which are fitted out with plants, shrubs, numerous benches, tables and chairs – help with relaxation leading to reduced anxiety and stress, as well as improved mental health.

We are also supporting the installation of outdoor furniture and lighting to the Glade at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Wirral. The Glade provides an opportunity for patients, visitors, volunteers and staff to walk, sit and reflect in nature – providing a natural space both for quiet reflection and social interaction.

Creating a welcoming environment at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre

There is a huge wealth of scientific evidence to show that engaging with arts and creative thinking is hugely beneficial for patients. Patients report less pain, reduced anxiety and stress, improved mood and reduced fatigue. The charity funds an Arts Coordinator who sits within the quality and improvement team and leads on all of this work.

Your support allows us to provide public artworks across the different centres, which give a homely feel for patients and visitors, as well as providing distraction during visits or stays.

We have also partnered with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic to provide live performances at all Clatterbridge sites – with extra performances at Christmas.

Emma Rodgers

The Clatterbridge Fairy was specially created by our Charity Patron, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Emma Rodgers.

We asked Emma to share why she's supporting our Fairy Appeal:
"I have been a Patron of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for 14 years now, as my mum is cared for there. They are incredible with her and getting the 'all clear' was a wonderful moment. They've done more for me than I can ever do for them, so creating the Fairy seems a small thing, really.

And this year I will be dedicating my Fairy to Professor Myint and the Team at Clatterbridge love from Emma, Milly, Annie and family."
