Running For A Cause: Nick’s Fundraising Efforts For Clatterbridge

Nick is lacing up his running shoes for a cause close to his heart as he prepares to take on the Chester Metric Marathon – 26.6 km – to support his amazing girlfriend Harriet, who was recently diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer at just 24 years of age.

Harriet is receiving exceptional treatment at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and has bravely chosen to wear the innovative cold caps which have been funded by your donations. In many cases hair loss is the first visible side effect for patients during treatment and can be one of the most profound – now, thanks to your donations, this isn’t the case for patients, like Harriet, who wish to try and keep their hair.

Cold Cap Machines can prevent hair loss by cooling the scalp before, during and after chemotherapy treatment and thereby reduce the blood-flow in this area by up to 80%. This in turn reduces the level of chemotherapy agent which reaches the scalp and this is what helps to limit damage to the hair follicles.

“On the April 25th 2024 we were given the news that Harriet had been diagnosed with triple negative Breast Cancer.

This came as such a shock to us all, as Harriet is 24 and the fittest and healthiest she has ever been. As time went on and treatment began, we realised how lucky we were to have Clatterbridge so close to home, so I thought the least I could do was give something back to the people who were making this extremely tough journey that little bit more bearable.

The care that Clatterbridge provide is outstanding, from the individualised treatment to the modern, comfortable facilities.”

Emma Rodgers

The Clatterbridge Fairy was specially created by our Charity Patron, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Emma Rodgers.

We asked Emma to share why she's supporting our Fairy Appeal:
"I have been a Patron of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for 14 years now, as my mum is cared for there. They are incredible with her and getting the 'all clear' was a wonderful moment. They've done more for me than I can ever do for them, so creating the Fairy seems a small thing, really.

And this year I will be dedicating my Fairy to Professor Myint and the Team at Clatterbridge love from Emma, Milly, Annie and family."
