Sutcliffe Charity Ball Raises Over £29,000 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Civil and structural engineering firm Sutcliffe has once again demonstrated its commitment to the community, raising an incredible £29,470 for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity at its annual charity ball.

Held at the stunning Rum Warehouse at the Titanic Hotel, the event brought together professionals from construction, healthcare, and business across the Liverpool City Region. In total, the evening raised £89,000, which was shared between three local charities: Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, Liverpool Women’s Hospital Charity, and University Hospitals of Liverpool Charity.

Each charity was chosen for its vital role in healthcare and its personal connection to the Sutcliffe team. The original fundraising target of £75,000 was far exceeded thanks to the generosity of guests, sponsors, and supporters. Highlights of the evening included a luxury seven-night stay in Portugal and exclusive signed sports memorabilia, which helped drive the total even higher.

This year’s event held special meaning for the Sutcliffe team. Jacqui Johnson, the company’s Communications Director, was diagnosed with breast cancer just five days after last year’s ball. Her brave decision to share her story on the night added a deeply personal and emotional layer to the evening, reinforcing the importance of supporting cancer care and research.

“At Sutcliffe, we’ve always cared about the communities we work in,” said Sean Keyes, CEO of Sutcliffe. “This ball was our way of giving back to organisations that support our families, friends, and the wider region. I’m proud we surpassed our target and grateful to everyone who made it possible.”

Sutcliffe’s ongoing support for healthcare infrastructure across the North West is a core part of its mission, having delivered engineering and consultancy services for many of the region’s leading medical institutions.

The evening also welcomed honorary NHS guests, including:

Geraldine Mitchell, Head of Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at University Hospitals of Liverpool
Susan O’Neil, Head of Neonatal Services at Liverpool Women’s Hospital
Dr Shaveta Mehta, Consultant in Clinical Oncology and Deputy Director of Clinical Research at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre

Katrina Bury, Chief Executive of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, expressed her gratitude:

“A huge thank you to everyone at Sutcliffe for choosing us as one of the beneficiaries. The generosity shown on the night will help us continue supporting the one in two people affected by cancer in our region. Events like this make a real difference to patients and their families.”

Emma Rodgers

The Clatterbridge Fairy was specially created by our Charity Patron, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Emma Rodgers.

We asked Emma to share why she's supporting our Fairy Appeal:
"I have been a Patron of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for 14 years now, as my mum is cared for there. They are incredible with her and getting the 'all clear' was a wonderful moment. They've done more for me than I can ever do for them, so creating the Fairy seems a small thing, really.

And this year I will be dedicating my Fairy to Professor Myint and the Team at Clatterbridge love from Emma, Milly, Annie and family."
