I’m Dr Ian Lampkin, a Clinical Oncologist at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre specialising in urology and skin cancers.
I decided to take up running as part of a health kick a few years ago when I lost eight and a half stone. I made the sport part of my goal and started entering organised runs.
I decided to combine this new love of running with fundraising for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and I took on the Tunnel 10k run in 2023, did a 5k series around the same time and ran the Port Sunlight 10K in June 2025.
After having a break for a year or so, I promised all my amazing patients I would do another run last year, and I have carried on from there.
It is great to do fundraising for the charity that helps our patients at Clatterbridge.
This time I’m running a trail Excalibur 10K around Moel Famau with my mate from work Jonny then I’ll be doing the Clatterbridge Abseil with my mate from the gym Steve.
I began working at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre ten years ago, at the end of my training in general medicine. I specialise in urological cancers, treating cancers in the bladder and prostate – and also skin cancer.
I enjoy the complexities of the science behind these types of cancers as well as the nature of the patients I treat. My team and I look after so many lovely people and it’s a pleasure to care for them.
You can sponsor me for the run or the abseil here here.
From skydives to abseils, runs, walks and treks there are loads of events you can take part in to help local people with cancer.
If you want to find out more about events you can take part in to raise money for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity you can do so here.
