Since the Charity was formed in 1996, our incredible supporters have helped raise more than £46 million, funding research into new treatments, cutting-edge technology for patients, improvements to the hospital environment, and innovations in care.
Generous donors and fundraisers have made it possible to fund a huge range of projects that have genuinely changed lives for cancer patients across Cheshire and Merseyside.
None of this would have been possible without the tens of thousands of people who have hosted bake sales, organised raffles, taken part in events, sung, gamed, and so much more!
Brian Barwick OBE, Chair of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, paid tribute to everyone who has been part of the Clatterbridge story over the last 30 years:
“We are so thankful to the individuals, families, groups, companies, charitable trusts and everyone who has donated over the last 30 years. Your support has made a positive lasting impact on the lives of local people with cancer over three decades.
“I would also like to thank every single person who has volunteered their time for the Charity. Your generosity of spirit allows us to do what we do, and you should be very proud of being part of the Clatterbridge family. Here’s to another 30 years of fundraising and helping cancer patients in Cheshire and Merseyside.”
To mark the occasion, we held a special celebration in the Winter Garden at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool.
Two poetry readers and two choirs, Liverbird and Sing Me Merseyside, performed for patients and staff. There was a fundraising raffle, plenty of cake and tea, and guests were invited to pin a dedication to the Charity on a giant number 30.
Among those celebrating was Carol Cox, who has volunteered for Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for more than ten years.
She said: “I volunteer because I wanted to support a cause that I care about, which helps numerous people within the community, and is great fun to be part of. Everyone should try it.”
Thirty years of fundraising has changed lives across Cheshire and Merseyside by supporting a range of projects, such as:
- £12 million raised towards the construction of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool.
- £5 million invested in clinical trials over five years.
- Counselling support for patients, memory books for families, wigs and scarves for those experiencing hair loss, and presents for inpatients on Christmas Day.
- An arts programme bringing musicians into hospitals, arts packs for inpatients, and improvements to hospital environments including paintings and outdoor spaces.
- Lunch clubs and days out for teenage and young adult patients.
None of this would have been possible without the tens of thousands of people who have hosted bake sales, organised raffles, taken part in running and walking events, completed bike rides and swims, hiked, sung, gamed, and so much more.
Every single person who’s bought a Charity Christmas card, our iconic Clarence the Clatterbridge bear, a pin badge, pen or fairy decoration has played their part in three decades of incredible fundraising. And then there are the thousands who’ve taken part in our now-famous Glow Green Night Walk, or abseiled down the side of The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool.
Local businesses have made a real difference too, sponsoring events like our annual ball and the Garden of Light, and giving their staff time to volunteer for our work.
In the year ending March 2026 alone, an incredible £4 million was raised by our generous fundraisers and donors.
Thirty years of fundraising has changed lives across Cheshire and Merseyside, but there’s still so much more to do.
Whether it’s taking on a challenge event, joining our next Glow Green Night Walk, or simply picking up a pin badge, every contribution helps us continue supporting local people with cancer for the next 30 years and beyond.
