Every day, people across Cheshire, Merseyside and beyond turn to The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre for world-class cancer care, close to home. Behind that care is a community of supporters who help us go further, and some of the most inspiring come from local workplaces and high street businesses.
Whether you run an independent shop, manage a team in a large company or simply want to rally your colleagues, there is a way for you to make a real difference. Here are some of the ways businesses are already helping.
Apply for a community grant
Many retailers and employers run community funds that local charities can benefit from. A great example is John Lewis Liverpool, whose £1,500 Community Matters grant is supporting our Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) Unit.
This kind of funding helps us offer extras that make a real difference to young people during an incredibly tough time, including lunch clubs and arts projects that bring connection, creativity and joy to their cancer journey.
If your business offers a community grant or giving scheme, we would love to hear from you.
Take on a challenge together
Few things bring a team together like a shared challenge. Colleagues from John Lewis Liverpool have raised over £5,300 so far this year by taking part in our Glow Green Walk and by abseiling down the side of the hospital. Two of them, Debbie and Hazel, took on the abseil in June, and we are told it was far more hair-raising than their recent tour of the TYA Unit!
Challenge events are a brilliant way to boost morale, build team spirit and raise vital funds at the same time. From a night-time walk to a festive fun run, there is something for every ability and age.
Join a festive fundraiser
Christmas is a special time to give, and a perfect moment for workplaces to get involved. John Lewis colleagues are lining up for the Liverpool Santa Dash next, and the funds they raise really are the best Christmas gift we could ask for. You could also support our Christmas Appeal by encouraging customers, colleagues and clients to give.
Fundraise your own way
You do not need a big event to make an impact. Businesses can support us through simple ideas such as:
- Dress-down days or bake sales in the office.
- Collection tins or donation points in your shop or reception.
- Quizzes, raffles and sports tournaments.
- Inviting customers to add a donation at the till
Every pound raised helps us support patients and families when they need it most.
Build a longer-term partnership
Some of our most meaningful relationships are those that grow over time. Choosing Clatterbridge Cancer Charity as your charity of the year, setting up payroll giving or exploring corporate sponsorship can provide steady, reliable support that helps us plan ahead and invest in the future of local cancer care and research.
Support from local businesses helps us fund the things that go beyond core NHS services, from specialist equipment and research to the extra touches that make a difficult time a little easier for patients and their loved ones. Your support stays local and benefits people in your own community.
Get involved
As Debbie and Hazel from John Lewis said after their visit: “It’s so rewarding to know that John Lewis are supporting such fantastic work.”
We would love to help you feel the same.
