The Arriva Bus Driver Taking On Glow Green

Gerry Devine, an Arriva bus driver from Liverpool and loving husband to Janet, will lead a huge group of family and friends at Clatterbridge Cancer Charity’s Glow Green Night Walk this Friday.

The Devine Angels have come together to honour the memory of Janet, a brave soul who faced the battle against breast cancer in 2010. Tragically, after 13 years, Janet and her loved ones were confronted with the devastating news that the cancer had resurfaced, spreading to her spine and other parts of her body.

Their team, known as ‘The Devine Angels’ will walk together to pay tribute to Janet and to support other families just like theirs. Up to now they have raised an outstanding £2,378 and counting!

“For the last two years of her life, Clatterbridge was a huge support for Janet, so as a thank you we want to give something back. She was so proud of her family and now it’s our turn to do her proud.

I’ve worked for Arriva for a long time, so it means a lot to me that the company has sponsored Glow Green too. As a family, we are all extremely thankful for the huge £10,000 sponsorship that they have given to Clatterbridge Cancer Charity and the support they’ll be giving to walkers on the night. We hope it can help families like ours who are affected by cancer.”

Walking alongside Gerry and over forty of their nearest and dearest will be his daughter Stacey, she says “12th October is a day we’ll never forget. After 41 years of marriage, Mum and Dad renewed their wedding vows. Less than an hour later she sadly passed away. She has broken all our hearts but what a woman she was, we are beyond proud of her and blessed to call her ours.”

Richard Hoare, Area Director for Arriva North West said:
“We’re really proud of Gerry and the fact he’s rallied the support of family and friends to do the Glow Green Walk in memory of his wife Janet.

His is just one story about a much-respected charity which has a special place in all our hearts and I am also proud that Arriva are backing him and a number of other colleagues in raising money for this important cause. We’re sponsoring the event and taking part and we hope we can make a real difference.

I’ll be there and I’m looking forward to seeing the great things we can achieve by coming together and supporting Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.”

1,500 people will join the Devine family at Glow Green this Friday. Starting at the Museum of Liverpool, there will be live performances and entertainment, walkers will then take in some of Liverpool’s most iconic landmarks along the 5-mile route.

Emma Rodgers

The Clatterbridge Fairy was specially created by our Charity Patron, internationally acclaimed sculptor, Emma Rodgers.

We asked Emma to share why she's supporting our Fairy Appeal:
"I have been a Patron of Clatterbridge Cancer Charity for 14 years now, as my mum is cared for there. They are incredible with her and getting the 'all clear' was a wonderful moment. They've done more for me than I can ever do for them, so creating the Fairy seems a small thing, really.

And this year I will be dedicating my Fairy to Professor Myint and the Team at Clatterbridge love from Emma, Milly, Annie and family."
