Hi, my name is Kerry, I’m 38 years old from St Helens and a mum of two.
In January 2024 my partner Scott and I had booked our wedding for 2025, however in March of that year I was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer.
After experiencing symptoms of struggling to swallow and my voice changing, I finally saw a specialist and was later told I had cancer.
I had a 6.2cm tumour in my oesophagus. My world had changed, and the wedding would now be put on hold.
I chose to have my treatment at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre – Liverpool, and this was without a doubt the best decision that I had made, as everyone has been amazing. The staff there are brilliant.
During my time at Clatterbridge, I underwent four rounds of chemotherapy, 25 rounds of radiotherapy and ten chemotherapy tablets a day, as well as needing to have a feeding tube fitted.
In December 2024 I was told that my treatment had worked and there was no evidence of cancer.
That is why I took part in this year’s Glow Green Walk with my friend, as I wanted to give something back to the Clatterbridge Cancer Centre through the Charity, as it is very close to my heart.
Now, I am back planning our wedding and looking forward to celebrating the big day with our family and friends.
For anyone currently going through cancer treatment I just want to say keep going, you’re doing amazing and are stronger than you think you are!
