At Clatterbridge Cancer Charity, we are dedicated to providing the best possible care for patients at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. Radiotherapy is a crucial part of our treatment plans, helping to control or cure cancer by targeting high-energy x-rays at tumours.
However, this process can also affect nearby healthy tissue. To minimize this, patients often receive small permanent tattoos to guide the treatment.
We are excited to announce that Clatterbridge will soon be receiving new technology called Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT), thanks to a generous £70,000 donation from our supporters.
This advanced technology will eliminate the need for tattoos, making treatments faster, more accurate, and more comfortable for our patients. SGRT continuously adjusts for patient movement, ensuring the highest dose of therapy reaches the cancer every time.
This new technology will also address patient inequalities, particularly for those with darker skin where tattoos are harder to see.
Additionally, head and neck cancer patients will benefit from using an open mask instead of a full face mask, significantly improving their comfort during treatment.
Your support is vital in helping us bring this cutting-edge technology to Clatterbridge. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of those battling cancer. Join us in this life-changing journey by donating today!
